30/06/2024 Spoon and Utensil Carving Course

A relaxed day of woodcraft,
carving and whittling safely,
making wooden spoons
and other useful cooking tools.

Who is this for?

Anyone who wants to learn to work with wood, using simple tools, to make a spoon, spatula and butter knife.

"The most relaxing and satisfying course I've been on" Participant 2022

There's the added bonus of experiencing the healing, focused, mindful flow state of carving, as you listen to the song of the grain in the wood in your hands.

The plan is to gather at Trill on the Hill, "A wild place for nature and people" in East Devon, for lunch around midday and start the course at 1.00pm

There will be almost 6 fun and intensive hours of the course (with breaks for tea, coffee and homemade cake of course).

Content
We will learn to select suitable wood for carving and using in the kitchen, how keep your tools sharp too.
We will consider options for finishing the wood too, such as sanding and oiling.
We aim to Finish at 6.30/7pm with some simple soup!

Aims
It is my intention that you leave with a new spoon made by your good self, that you could eat soup with, and also the many wood craft skills needed to get to that point.

I also hope you will have had some excellent conversations and feel the mindful wonder and flow state that carving brings to a busy mind.

What is Trill on the Hill?

A place to explore the endless joy and possibility of nature. A rugged and plentiful natural landscape, made for learning, sharing and connecting. A plan to leave a more diverse and rich land than we found. A wild campsite made for campfire singsongs, muddy faces and belly laughs. A foundation for a range of organic skincare and craft products. A field for our flock of Gotland sheep to roam. A special place, undisturbed, an inheritance of secrets. A work in progress project. To find out more click here:

Here's a testimonial from Clare H

If you're wondering whether to take the plunge and expose yourself to the chilling, thrilling waters of storytelling, then wonder no more.  Dive in and feel the joyful thrill of launching yourself into an adventure.  Chris will be there to guide you and lead you with his gentle, playful energy and soon you'll be free and swimming off into the sunlit waters and dark pools of the river of lyrical language.  You'll enjoy the childlike, delight of listening, wide-eyed to stories around a campfire and discover that you too have something to offer and that others will be delighted to hear.  You'll learn tricks and tips and most of all confidence in your own words, your own voice, the language of your soul.  Come on in, the water's lovely!
